From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of heroes, and a gripping narrative including celestial beings, demons, and dark forces growing in influence within the urban setting.
Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure lie ahead.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
The latest chapter concluded with a dramatic pause and presented the initial group of characters who will branch out from the central cast to embark on their independent quest, separate from the other two tables.
This warrior group consists of Teor (brought to life by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
Dividing the Cast
Considering an extensive roster, it was clear from the start that having everyone at one table would be unworkable.
Hence, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Introduction, connecting the characters’ stories before branching into three separate parties: Warriors, Strategists, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for participants who prefer a classically intense combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are few and far between.
Initially, characters like the hesitant healer the cleric might seem out of place, but the developments of the third episode make it clear why these five characters are best suited for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the team understands precisely where to proceed after a violent first encounter with the antagonists.
Casimir of the deceased character—whose passing kicked off the narrative’s action—manipulated the enemy for his selfish purposes, invading Thjazi’s hideout, striking Thimble, and stealing all the magical artifacts to sell off.
The traitor then paid off his debts and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd hot on his heels.
Personal Motivations
Secondly, each member has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:
- Thimble, as the companion and closest confidant, seeks revenge.
- The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the northern area and cautions that it is a dangerous place.
- Tyranny and The cleric, having disobeyed his house’s orders to execute the target and instead rescued him, have no other options.
- But, their position as prominent individuals in the powerful family could help the group reach areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Additionally, Teor vowed a eternal obligation to The cleric for his salvation and will now accompany him wherever.
Wanted and Hunted
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the powers that rule the city for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind dangerous:
- The rogue and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
- Tyranny and The healer betrayed House Halovar and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- The fighter is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This means them little choice but to journey toward Timmony in search of the antagonist.
Upcoming Developments
According to episode three’s post-show segment, we discover that the warrior group will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight participants to assemble the Seekers and Strategists groups.
Audiences can expect learning which characters will be in which group in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, released on the upcoming Thursday.
