19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been won on hard surfaces
A comeback Medvedev won his initial title for 882 days with victory over opponent Moutet in the competition final.
Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has endured a challenging period, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and suffering a difficult moment at the American major.
Medvedev's varied form on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serve in particular - led to him falling of the elite rankings and finally splitting with former trainer Cervara.
Currently working with Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily advanced in the recent weeks - climaxing in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over challenger Moutet.
This represents the player's first trophy following the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface since March of the previous year.
Success also means the Russian has achieved 21 titles at 21 distinct events.
"For the first time I am participating in a competition with my both daughters simultaneously, so to secure a title is particularly special," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.
"This championship is in honour of my second daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I achieved when my child her name was born was for her."
The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his past six finals, including in Halle in the past months.
Medvedev's defensive strategy and regular reactions on the tennis court had prompted commentators to wonder if his skill to perform at the elite level was concluded.
Yet the athlete has altered his approach in the last few weeks, making an effort to approach the net and compete positively, supported by an enhanced serve.
The champion came back from a deficit in the initial set against the tricky opponent, taking four of the concluding five games to gain the advantage.
The competitors traded break points in the following set before the challenger, bidding for his first professional title, gained dominance to create a final set.
Moutet rescued 4 initial break points in a close final set before Medvedev won the break to that score to secure the win.
Fittingly, the winner secured victory with a rally at the net area, with Moutet failing to manage a volley after over two and a half hours.
